Computed Tomography

How it Works/
What it is

Trinity Medical Center now uses the new 64-slice Cardiology Imaging System. Volume coverage, not slices, changes the way anatomy is imaged and how studies are performed. The LightSpeed VCT Series of scanners combine superior resolution with outstanding coverage, thus reducing scan time making the imaging of difficult patients or procedures more routine. Covers the entire heart in 5 seconds. All images can be viewed in 3-dimension.

Benefit to Patient

The lightSpeed VCT Series groundbreaking technology opens the door to new procedures while improving the imaging of existing ones. Improved resolution, better detail, reduced acquisition times per study, shorter patient-breath-holds along with the platform’s power to routinely support faster coverage with subillimeter resolution, allow more robust and repeatable studies. This is critical in emerging procedures such as Coronary Angiographic studies. Chest pain patients can be managed in 12 seconds. Triple rule out study can be performed. This allows images of the Aorta, coronary arteries, and pulmonary arteries. This will detect early stages of non calcified plaque, as well as blood clots in the pulmonary arteries. Performed with one contrast injection. This allows less time on the CT table and all studies are non-invasive allowing patients to return immediately to normal activities. Renal arteries can also be visualized. Detection of narrowed renal arteries is important because it can lead to hypertension. PVD or Peripheral Vascular Disease can be detected by using this technology. PVD is the narrowing or complete blockages of the arteries in the lower extremities. Again, this is a non-invasive test allowing complete visualization of the arteries from the pelvis extending down to the feet. Weight limit for machine is 500 lbs. Allowing for Bariatric scanning.

Benefit to Referring Physician

Enables Physician to decide patient’s best course of treatment. Aids in the diagnosis of general cardiac disease, congenital heart disease and anatomy. The software that is utilized allows for quick and accurate diagnosis. This technology helps you detect disease at remarkable speed- helping you provide cost-efficient, effective care.
